The Design Narrative:
The Design Challenge
Design a t-shirt for the AIGA Flagler College Chapter using text and images that define graphic design for you. The AIGA Flagler College Chapter is dedicated to share creativity and excellence in graphic design among college students. To visualize my passion for design and to engage our target audience of art and design, I propose a unique and meaningful T-shirt. This design will incorporate text and images that define graphic design to me. Moreover, it aims to spark an inspiration within our community.
Research and Inspiration
My journey began with extensive research, conducted through brainstorming and the resources of the internet. I explored rich amount of graphic design ideas, looking into iconic movements, influential designers, as well as competitors ideas. This thorough research provided the foundation for my creative process.
Initial Sketches
I began the creative process by sketching multiple design ideas. From these sketches, I selected two concepts that I believe have the potential to effectively convey the message of graphic design to our target audience. These concepts are symbolic representations of design for me.
Design Concept
My design concept centers around the idea of Flagler symbol and AIGA text. The design size is 10X10 inches, and I used only 2 colors. I was aiming to communicate the essence of graphic design relying on literal illustration. I wanted my design to be both understood by target audience and visually appealing to them. To achieve all this goals, I did a lot of sketching and a mindmap that helped me a lot with the final idea.
